Practicing Solely in Residential Real Estate Law
Where the Attorney Does the Attorney Work
a/k/a Assistants Do Not Perform Direct Legal Services
Why is it imperative for the attorney to draft letters and hold client calls?
The legal background, licensing and understanding of relevant law is different between a licensed attorney and staff. In direct comparison, the distinction becomes evident. An Admin follows pre-designed responses without the legal foundation to analyze a client’s specific situation and potential risks. Administrative tasks follow set steps that aren’t personalized for a particular situation. On the other hand, legal advice focuses on assisting a specific client and situation, planning the best strategies while considering current circumstances and legal implications. It’s crucial to understand that sticking to a standard way of doing things might not be the best for a specific client and situation. This is why it is imperative that the attorney be in direct communication with clients and be the person drafting and responding to correspondence with opposing counsel.

Lynette J McKenzie
Attorney
Residential real estate is not just a part of the practice—it is the practice. For over two decades, Attorney Lynette J. McKenzie has devoted her legal career exclusively to residential real estate law. With deep roots across Northern Illinois, she serves clients in Cook County (including Chicago), as well as Lake, DuPage, Kane, Kankakee, McHenry, Kendall, Grundy, and Will Counties.
Her longstanding presence in these markets has resulted in a thorough and nuanced understanding of industry-standard contracts, applicable laws, and the customary procedures unique to each locality. This insight allows her to anticipate challenges, safeguard client interests in effort to facilitate smooth, efficient transactions.
Attorney McKenzie personally holds client phone calls, reviews contractual terms, drafts and analyzes legal correspondence, evaluates association disclosures, and physically attends all in person closings with her clients. She firmly believes that when attorney, client, and broker work together as a team, the client is best protected. With client approval, she and her office maintain close communication with that team throughout the transaction.
Her approach is client-centered, protective, and practical. While maintaining the highest ethical standards, she respects that the client’s goals drive the transaction—and she works diligently to support those goals while ensuring legal safeguards remain firmly in place.
